Police officer, Iraq veteran laid to rest

MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

A law enforcement officer has been laid to rest after dying in the line of duty.

Stacy Case, 37, was buried in her hometown of Midland.

Case died earlier this month while on duty in Columbia, South Carolina.

The 4-year veteran of the police department was responding to a call of shots fired when she collided with another police vehicle.

Columbia Police Chief William Holbrook traveled the more than 800 miles to Midland with several other officers to attend her funeral.

Holbrook said he couldn't have been more proud to serve with officer case.

“She was a consummate professional. Very upbeat always had a good attitude she was the epitome of what we expect from a 21st century police officer,” Holbrook said.

Case was not only a police officer, she also served 15 years in the United States Army.

Case was a veteran of the Iraq War and earned several awards during her tours, including the Iraq Campaign medal and National Defense Service medal.
