Investigators: Man on work release cuts tether, later arrested

SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A work release inmate attempts to escape by taking off his electronic tether.

It happened shortly after midnight in Sanilac County.

That’s when deputies with the corrections division learned the 27-year-old Melvin man, who was on work release from jail, had failed to return when he was supposed to.

The tether was located on the side of the road, and the man was found a short time later at a home on Peck Road in Flynn Township.

He was arrested, and so was the alleged driver of the vehicle he was in.

Neither the inmate’s name, nor the name of the 22-year-old Brown City man who was allegedly driving the vehicle have been released.
