Third 'stranger danger' incident in last week

Posted: Updated:

Parents in a local community on edge tonight after a handful of suspected stranger danger incidents.

"A maroon sedan was following the students, they appeared to be taking pictures of the kids," said Millington Schools Superintendent Bruce Martin.

Martin said a parent nearby noticed a man and woman in the car, and then confronted the strangers who appeared to be taking pictures of the children.

The car then sped off. Thankfully there was no contact with the kids.

The stranger danger prompted the district to send out this letter to parents to remind their children to be vigilant when approached by someone they don't know.

Martin said the advice sent out to parents is common knowledge but given the situation, the district thought it would be wise to make sure parents to remind their children of things like:

  • Don't get too close. Run if approached.
  • Pay attention. Get help if you think you're being followed.
  • Do not listen to strangers.
  • If a stranger grabs you. Run, kick, scream or bite to get away.

This is the third time in the last week a stranger danger has been reported in the area. Incidents have been reported in Millington, Vassar and in Atherton near Burton.
