Landlord of condemned apartment building offering help to relocate

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A frustrated Anita Wilson is still searching for answers after having to leave her apartment at Ballenger Court.

"If you’re not in our situation right now than you don't know what it feels like," Wilson said.

The city of Flint condemned the building last Friday, leaving the grandmother on the verge of homelessness before the Thanksgiving holiday.

"The city's no. 1 priority is taking care of our residents," said Brian Larkin.

Larkin is the city of Flint’s director of development and said the city is doing what needs to done to help the residents of Ballenger Court and have offered assistance.

"The shelter of Flint has been going out to these residence door to door to do emergency assessment to see what type of needs they have and to connect them with opportunities,” Larkin said. “And ultimately see them aid in the process of getting them relocated to safe livable environment."

TV5 went look for answers by asking Alltimate Property, the management team that runs Ballenger Court, the tough questions.

"We are doing all we can," said Joshua Parker.

Parker is the property manager for Alltimate Property.

“Anita and the other two paying tenants out there, we have tried to relocate them to any one of our other apartment complexes or our residential properties,” Parker said.

Parker said that was offered months ago to Wilson and she denied it.

“We want to look out for her. We want to get her to another property that way she doesn't have to go through this especially during the holidays – this is terrible," Parker said.
