Rose arraigned for assault before woman's killing

MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

Investigators are gathering evidence against Gregory Rose in the death of a 67-year-old woman.

The Midland County prosecutor said the assault charges from Monday's arraignment are from an incident that happened before the killing of Connie Pajunen.

Her body was found in her burned out home.

Investigators said Rose attacked a man the day before that fire was set.

"I have been in touch with the officers, the investigators we actually have met on a number of occasions, we've issued a number of search warrants the police as you aware have indicated that there is some relationship we believe between those offenses and the new complaints under investigation," said Prosecutor J. Dee Brooks. "Those are matters that are yet to be determined."

Rose was arrested after a dramatic car chase in Minnesota last week.

Police said he stole an Army Corps of Engineers vehicle that rammed several police cars before he was busted.

His case drew Lisa Loughton to the courthouse Monday morning. Loughton knew Pajunen for years, and said Pajunen was like a second mother to her.

"Connie trusted. She never locked her doors, he obviously, because of the situation that I know, the details that I know he just went in and surprised her and killed her," Loughton said.

Rose is scheduled to have a preliminary exam on these charges within the next couple of weeks. Official charges regarding the homicide could also be filed within that time period.
