MSP looking to 'adopt' families for Christmas

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

'Tis the season to give back.

Michigan State Police is looking for families that could use a helping hand. Community Service Trooper Steve Kramer said giving back is a year-round initiative.

“We are always looking for potential candidate families,” Kramer said.

With only 31 days until Christmas, time is of the essence. But it’s never too late for the community to come together and help raise money.

Kramer said multiple area businesses have already started contributing. This will enable MSP to give everything a family could need for the holidays.

“We supply toys for the kids, food for the family, even try helping out with bills, things like that, try to brighten up their Christmas,” Kramer said.

If there are enough donations, sometimes the police can help even more families than originally planned.

“For the families in the past, that have been adopted, have nothing. And even just for the Christmas holiday to enjoy a decent meal, toys for the kids, for the kids to be able to have a Christmas,” Kramer said.

Anyone interested in nominating a family is encouraged to write a letter to the Flint post. The department will make a decision on the family by next week.
