Planned Parenthood cancels event after Colorado shootings

DETROIT (AP) -

Planned Parenthood has cancelled a Detroit event planned ahead of World AIDS Day following last week's shootings at a Colorado clinic.

Monday's event was scheduled before the shootings and was to include a media availability with Democratic Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence of Michigan.

A spokeswoman for Lawrence says they hope to reschedule.

In an email Sunday, Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan spokeswoman Desiree Cooper wrote: "Our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy, and to those who suffered injuries. We take this time to reassert our commitment to basic, preventive reproductive health care for all."

World AIDS Day is Tuesday. The Detroit event had been planned to discuss services such as HIV testing and prevention at risk if federal funding is cut.
