CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

The body of a missing Mid-Michigan man was found on May 12.

William Wenzel, of Merrill, disappeared on a fishing trip on Lake George in November. Lake George is near the Canadian border.

There was an international search for Wenzel for a few days after the missing person's report was filed on Nov. 27.

Deputies with the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Canadian Coast Guard searched 33 square miles after discovering Wenzel's overturned boat, fishing gear and life vest.

On May 12, Wenzel's friends and family were searching the shore of Lake George when they saw something floating near Rock Island, the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office said.

The sheriff's office launched a rescue boat and recovered the body. The family identified the body as Wenzel's.

Wenzel's death was an accidental drowning, the sheriff's office said.
