Fire at medical marijuana dispensary determined to be arson

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A fire broke out at a Mid-Michigan marijuana dispensary on the morning of Dec. 1.

Abrahim Daraiseh was the owner of the building for 34 years and had rented it out.

"It burns me inside," Daraiseh said. "To see it in this fashion, it burns me inside."

The tenants used it as a dispensary called Five State Meds Marijuana Dispensary on Dort Highway in Mt. Morris.

The Clio Fire Department said the fire started in the upper part of the building and spread to a van that was parked near the front door.

Assistant Fire Chief Kirk Todd said it took teamwork to get the blaze under control.

"There were seven departments here this morning," Todd said. "Genesee one and two, Mt. Morris city, Clio one and two, and Davison was back filling and Birch Run also backfilled."

It took emergency crews an hour to put out the fire. The building was the only one Daraiseh owned, and he said he's afraid the building might be a total loss.

"Terrible, terrible, terrible. Been here for 40 years, never seen anything like this," Daraiseh said.

On Dec. 4, State Fire Marshal Lenny Jaskulka said investigators have "plenty of evidence" the fire was intentionally set.

Police have investigative leads, but no arrests have been made in the case.

No one was injured in the fire.
