MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

State concealed gun licenses will no longer be issued by local law enforcement.

The measure eliminates county gun boards in hopes of streamlining the process of license applications and renewals.

Now, county clerks and state police will take over the process.

Genesee County Clerk John Gleason said his office is preparing for the added responsibilities.

“Our staff went through pretty extensive and exhaustive training a few weeks ago to have this process run smoothly,” Gleason said.

The cost of a new application and license will now cost $5 less, while a renewal will cost about $10 more.

Michigan is the last state to have gun boards.
