Nexteer, UAW reach tentative agreement

Posted: Updated:

Nexteer has released a statement Wednesday after reaching an agreement with UAW Local 699.

"Nexteer Corporation and UAW Local 699 reached a tentative agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement early this morning.  The parties believe the agreement recognizes the contributions of the employees and the commitment of Nexteer to continue providing quality jobs for their employees and quality products for their customers.

A ratification vote will be scheduled by UAW Local 699 leadership in the coming days.”

The agreement was reached 40 minutes past the deadline which was extended on Nov. 24.

Earlier on Tuesday, the union provided an update to its members, announcing they strongly believed a tentative agreement would be in place by the deadline.

Nexteer employs 3,300 union members.

In a previous interview with TV5, Burzynski said there was one major hurdle both sides were trying to work through.

"We're taking that national agreement that we were under from [General Motors] when we were the GM plant and we're bringing this to our own local agreement right now. So there's going from a lot of pages down to a smaller local contract," Burzynski said.

We will continue to update you on the details of the agreement as soon as they become available.
