There has been an explosion at the Machine Tool and Gear in Corunna.

A 55-gallon drum of nitric acid exploded, but the contents were contained in the building.

The cause is currently unknown. The City of Corunna Facebook page reported there were two people injured.

The Facebook post said there have been no contaminants detected in the air or water system, and the building has been evacuated.

As of 4:30 p.m., the city was still waiting for a hazardous materials cleanup team to arrive.

The business is located on North Shiawassee Street in Corunna.

Three people were injured in the explosion, but one sought treatment separately.
