Winter event added to summertime classic

Posted: Updated:
FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

There’s a new event to give a summertime classic a winter twist.

Back to the Bricks has unveiled a new event, “Chrome and Ice.”

The winter event will be on Feb. 12-13 at Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center. And it will feature classic cars and a bunch of sand dumped on the arena floor.

"We hope that everybody comes out, it's going to be a good, family friendly event with a beach party hopefully top notch entertainment as well," said Back to the Bricks chairman, Al Hatch.

On Saturday Feb. 13 car show goers are encouraged to take in a Flint Firebirds hockey game that night.

Back to the bricks organizers also unveiled this summer's seventh annual promo tour. That tour takes place June 10-15.

It starts in Flint, with overnight stops in Ypsilanti, Port Huron, East Tawas, Grayling and West Branch.  Additional stops will be made to other communities.  It concludes with an end of the road lunch in Birch Run.

And for communities along the route it's always a big economic boost when the event goes through their town.

"The dynamics that it does for our downtown businesses, who typically June can be a slow month for us, just having that kind of energy being brought into town after the memorial holiday is a wonderful boost," said Shelley Buresh, Tawas Area Chamber of Commerce.

West Branch city manager, Heather Grace said, "It's enormous for our community. We are a city of just over 2,000 and when the tour came through last year we had more than a thousand people downtown on a Tuesday night."
