First 'Teddy Bear Toss' benefits area hospitals

Posted: Updated:

Children in hospitals will be getting a nice surprise thanks to local hockey fans.

At the Saginaw Spirit vs. Flint Firebirds game, fans tossed hundreds of teddy bears onto the ice at Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center after the Firebirds scored their first goal.

Before the game, fans were encouraged to bring their own bears or purchase them at the game.

The bears and cash donations will benefit The Ennis Center for Children, Hurley Children’s Hospital, St. Luke’s N.E.W. Life Center, Teddy Bear Patrol, and Whaley Children’s Center among others.

All of the teddy bears will be taken to area hospitals.
