BRIGHTON, Mich. (WNEM) -

Police found the missing man with dementia that went missing on Dec. 6.

Michel August Yales, 92, was reported missing from his residence in Brighton Township. The Michigan State Police Brighton Post went to his residence to check up on him on Sunday and discovered he had been missing for more than 24 hours.

Police located him about 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. Investigators tracked Yales to a gas station in Dewitt by following his credit card transactions, police said.

Police searched the area, but was unable to locate him. Yales later stopped at a McDonald's restaurant in Shelby Township and told employees he planned to spend the night in the parking lot. An employee called police.

Officers confirmed Yales was a missing person and transported him to the Shelby Township Police Department where they contacted his family, police said.
