FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A group trying to bring fresh produce to Mid-Michigan’s largest city said it’s surpassed its fundraising goal.

The Local Grocery in Flint set its goal at raising $30,000 to branch out of the local farmer’s market and build its own stand-alone business.

As of Dec. 7, the group’s Kickstarter page has raised nearly $32,000 from almost 200 donors.

The new store hopes to fill the gap in Flint where five chain grocery stores have closed in less than two years.
