Mother: Son was punched in the stomach by security officer

Posted: Updated:

A Mid-Michigan mother said her son was beaten, not by another students, but a security officer at the school.

"My son has been traumatized. Hurt, my family is upset, hurt," said Crystal Murphy.

On Friday, Murphy received a call from the Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy.

"Stating that security officer had pulled my son in the bathroom by the wrist and punched him the stomach. That is what my son reported to the officials at the school," Murphy said.

A spokeswoman for the school said the school is doing a fact-finding investigation into the incident. The security officer is on administrative leave with pay, pending further investigation.

"There is no reason whatsoever for an adult to put their hands on a child," Murphy said.

Murphy said she took her son to the hospital and he is OK.

She said her child has never had problems at the school before. In fact, he was even in class on Monday. But Murphy said that will all change if the school district doesn't do what she believes is the right thing.

"The security officer needs to be terminated from the school system and he needs not to be around children at all," Murphy said.
