GENESEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

I-475 was shut down due to a multiple vehicle pileup Tuesday morning.

The closure impacted the north and southbound lanes between E. Coldwater Road and Saginaw Street in Genesee Township.

The accident happened about 5:30 a.m. and caused lane closures for a few hours. Both sides of the highway have reopened.

Police said, a truck was trying to switch lanes to move over for an emergency vehicle and struck a car. The truck then tried to correct itself and struck a light pole that fell on other vehicles.

"Probably a section of 15 to 18 feet, plus the light police went into the northbound lanes and caused four vehicles that were coming to run over the debris before we could finally get it shut down," said Genesee Township Police Chief John Mullaly.

Crews worked to clean up debris scattered across both sides of the highway.

here were five vehicles involved in the accident. One person suffered minor injuries.
