Nearby businesses feeling the pinch in Nexteer strike

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

More than 3,000 Nexteer employees are on strike. And while they walk the picket line, some nearby businesses are looking a lot emptier.

"It's going to affect everybody down the line," said Alexander Copes.

Copes is the assistant manager a Big John's Steak and Onion. At lunchtime on Tuesday, he said his restaurant was usually packed.

"Like right now it'd be real busy, but I guess since the strike we hardly have anybody coming in right now," Copes said.

Close by at Blue Diamond Liquor, Sarah Singh said lots of their customers are also Nexteer employees.

"I guess it's a lot of people, they come on their lunch breaks and to and from work so it'll affect us," Singh said.

Signh said the liquor and convenience store has a lot of regulars that still came in on Tuesday.

But she says if the strike lasts a while, it could start to take a toll on business.

"It's going to affect a lot of people so we're probably worried a little bit," Singh said.
