UAW members outside of Nexteer supporting picket line

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

More than 3,000 workers on strike, and right now, Jim Bell said there appears to be no end in sight.

Among union employees, Nexteer Automotive has nearly 20 different tiers of employees something that Bell said creates tension among employees.

"When you have people who stand next to you and get paid more to do the same job, it breeds discontent," Bell said.

Inside the plant that may be true, but outside the plant on the picket line union workers are standing in solidarity, hoping they can get the company to budge.

Nexteer is one of many companies that recently entered into negotiations before the holidays.

Tobais Young was faced with a similar dilemma working at GM in Flint a month ago. On Tuesday, he brought coffee to fellow United Auto Workers helping keeping them warm, hoping his brothers and sisters can get back to work.

Nexteer released a statement on Tuesday:

"We are currently working with the UAW to resolve the issue in a timely manner. Our 1,800+ salaried workforce at the Saginaw facility remains focused on continuing to service our customers."

Bell and the thousands of striking Nexteer employees said they willing to hold out until a new deal they feel is fair gets done.
