Grandmother fighting cancer has home broken into, Christmas presents stolen

STANDISH, MI (WNEM) -

Sabrina Albert said thieves robbed her family of the Christmas spirit on Wednesday night.

"These kids won't have their Christmas presents this year but they'll have grandma," Albert said.

Albert said they came to her sister's house earlier in the week and found the backdoor busted open with Christmas presents and many other items gone.

“I just get chills because I think whoever did this is a very heartless person,” Albert said.

To add insult to injury, Albert said her sister Michelle purchased Christmas presents for her grandchildren this week – right before being checked into a hospital to treat stage four breast cancer.

"She's got three little grandchildren under the age of four and she's been picking things up as she goes,” Albert said. “And to steal kids Christmas gifts.”

Albert is now trying to fix up her sister's burglarized home before she returns from a week of cancer treatment at U of M Ann Arbor.

The family set up a GoFundMe page to help with Michelle's medical expenses. They're also looking to replace her grandchildren’s Christmas gifts.
