Gold coin dropped in Mid-Michigan red kettle

Posted: Updated:

A valuable gold coin worth about $1,100 has been dropped into a Mid-Michigan Salvation Army kettle.

An anonymous donor gave a South African Krugerrand coin on Thursday, Dec. 10. The coin is made from an ounce of gold.

“This donation comes at such a wonderful time for us,” said Captain Brian Goodwill, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army’s Midland Corps.

Goodwill said that red kettle donations have been down compared to previous years. With just two weeks to go, they need an additional $55,000 to reach their goal.

On Saturday, Dec. 12 all donations made in The Salvation Army’s red kettles will be matched up to $2,000 thanks to Medical Procedures Group and Dr. Jack Pfenniger.

If you don’t carry cash, you can always donate. Just text “MIRACLES” to 71777. You will be directed to a secure website that allows them to donate any amount they choose to The Salvation Army in Midland.
