Dow COO: 'Our commitment to Midland is resolute'

Posted: Updated:

"This is going to be the leading science and materials company, the leading [agriculture] company and the leading specialty products company in the world," said Jim Fitterling, Dow COO.

The new company will be named DowDuPont.

It will be split into three, independent, publicly traded companies.

An agriculture company to sell products to millions of farmers around the world, a material science company and specialty products company.

Those companies make industrial products ranging from electronics, automobiles and household goods to building materials and safety equipment.

"It will be dual-headquartered in Midland and in Wilmington so our commitment to Midland is resolute," Fitterling said.

But does that means all Dow jobs are safe?

"I don't think that means we can say no layoffs," Fitterling said. "I think we have to look for the most effective ways to run these entities together, and so we're going to have to look at services that can be provided better and more efficiently across the new company."

Fitterling added they don't have any numbers on that right now, but they'll have to work with DuPont and Dow Corning over the coming weeks.

Fitterling said the merger wouldn’t take place until the second half of 2016.
