FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

"My Christmas shopping is done and it one is on its way," said Jean Rochelle.

Rochelle has lifted her last package.

Like so many stopping by the Flint main post office on Monday, it's all about making sure their cards and packages get to their destinations in plenty of time before Christmas.

Monday is the biggest delivery day for mailing letters. The biggest delivery day for packages will be just a few days before Christmas, Monday Dec. 21.

"It's projected to be the busiest mailing day of our season," said Flint Postmaster Ronald Hippensteel.

Hippensteel is encouraged by the huge turnout and he said it has a lot to do with the growing popularity of online shopping.

While numbers at the shopping malls are down, business at the post office is at an all-time high.

The postal service will deliver 15.5 billion cards, letters and packages during the holiday season.

With such a heavy work load, the post office added some bodies.

"We seasonally hire on a temporary basis to help with the workforce and all of our employees are stepping up and doing what they need too and putting some long hours in this time of year," Hippensteel said.
