Community leaders urging update to medical marijuana laws

LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

State lawmakers, business people and health officials urge the senate to update medical marijuana laws.

The bill which passed in October would promote patient and product safety while making sure shops selling medical marijuana followed the law.

“We have the ability to propagate a rule that codifies it into law and makes it honest in the way it's going to be faired out in a community, the way it's going to be grown, taxing it, the way it's going be distributed and otherwise I think we need to do our very best to get it out now,” said Sen. Bert Johnson, Detroit.

Sen. Rick Jones supports the legislation as well as Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero.
