State of emergency declaration will get hearing by county

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Flint's emergency disaster declaration will get a hearing from the Genesee County Board of Commissioners.

Chairman Jamie Curtis confirmed it on Tuesday evening.

Mayor Karen Weaver issued the declaration to try to get more money to fix the city's ongoing water problems.

It needs county approval for it to advance to the state and federal levels.

Curtis seemed perturbed he was not informed about the declaration.

"I have reached out to the mayor. I have met with the mayor at public events," Curtis said. "I give her my personal cellphone number. I asked her if I could meet with her so I could discuss issues that are pending that I need to get her up to speed on that involve both units of government."

The hearing takes place on Jan. 4.
