OSCODA TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A 58-year-old man was found dead in Oscoda Township on Dec. 10.

Steven Burgess, 58, of Oscoda was found on Merton Road in Oscoda Township. His cause of death is unknown.

Burgess was driving a Chevy Silverado Pickup truck on the dirt road when it went through a swampy area and got stuck, the Oscoda Township Police Department said.

Police believe Burgess got out of the vehicle and tried to walk away or free the vehicle when he died. He was found near the front of the vehicle, police said.

The cause of death is unclear, but foul play is not suspected.

Burgess was discovered by friends of the family who had been out looking for him. He went missing on Dec. 4, but was never reported to police, police said.

He had a history of disappearing for a while, police said.

Police believe the incident transpired on Dec. 4.
