IMLAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan man undergoes treatment after being bitten by a rabid fox.

It happened on Dec. 4 in Lapeer County’s Imlay City.

Police say that a 66-year-old Imlay City man was on Folk Court, in an undeveloped industrial complex, when he noticed a strange looking animal.

The man says the animal was walking in circles, so he went over to investigate. The man said the fox was wagging its tail, and had its tongue out and bit the man when he tried to pet it.

The man reported the incident to the police department, and when officers arrived they found the fox walking in circles and stumbling. After noticing the signs of rabies, officers shot and killed the animal and sent it to Michigan State University for testing.

On Dec. 11 tests revealed the animal, which police say was a gray fox, did have rabies.

The man did seek treatment, and is expected to be OK.
