SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A national record set right here in Mid-Michigan. Three bowlers teaming up for a score one pin shy of perfection. Two 300’s and a 299.899 total, breaking the old record of 897.

It all happened on lanes five and six at Candelite Lanes in Bridgeport, that’s in Saginaw County.

“It was an unbelievable feeling. We weren’t really thinking about it that much, it all just kind of fell into place,” said Bobby Sanch, one of the record-setting bowlers.

Sanch is a bowler for Saginaw Valley State University. “We got to the ninth frame and we kind of looked at each other and we were like, alright, we got something going, let’s try not to mess it up.”

The owner of Candelite Lanes, Bob Klein, said the atmosphere was amazing when the record was set. “It was just fantastic. I mean, the excitement was great, and they were really pumped up. Everybody in the center was pumped up.”

Sanch is part of the 3 man Tuesday night tavern league. Sanch, along with Steve Novak bowled the perfect 300 games. Brian McMahon finished with a 299. The team will be back in action next Tuesday, and Sanch says he is proud to be part of a new bowling standard.

“It’s just really exciting to get to experience that. It was something we’ll probably never be able to do again, but it was cool.”
