New art center opening after new year

A new art center is hoping to cultivate artistic talents in Mid-Michigan.

“People are going to be able to learn all kinds of new things, dance, music, art, painting – you name it,” said owner Bill Harman.

The Studio is coming to Saginaw Township. It will host a variety of arts to learn and teach.

Harman said The Studio is doing some remodeling, but he’s already looking forward to the grand opening.

We open Jan. 2, that's a Saturday. Live for a radio broadcast, Saturday morning from 9 am to noon. Come on and stop by, we will explain what is going on,” Harman said.

The Studio will host everything from jazz dance classes to canvas painting workshops..

Raeann Jones will be the music director at the new studio.

“Having this kind of stuff in the area just adds to it, gives more creditably to Saginaw, gives more things to do for kids in the area. It's awesome, I can't wait until it opens,” Jones said.

The Studio is a work in progress, and a lot has gone into making it a reality. A lot of people have stepped up to give a helping hand.

All of the materials needed for The Studio’s renovation have been donated by community members.

Harman said they still need to do some work on the building, like paint and build a stage that will someday work as an improv comedy area for classes.

Grace Davis owns Center Stage Salon which is right next door, she said she can't wait until it opens.

“Just because there is going to be so many options of stuff to do different things, different forms of art. And I don't think there is anything like that yet,” Davis said.

“We are going to do music, we’re going to do art, we’re going to do photography, we are going to do Zumba, you name it, exercises. All kinds of things are going to be in here,” Harman said.
