Emergency responders collect donations for kids in need

Posted: Updated:

Men and women in uniform took donations on Monday to help local kids in need.

State troopers and emergency responders from Owosso and Corunna collected gifts at the Safe Center of Shiawassee County.

The event also served as an open house for families to meet local police officers and firefighters.

The toy drive was organized after officers got a call from the Safe Center in Owosso.

"We found out at the last minute that there were some children in the area between the ages of 12 and 16 that didn't have gifts available to them," said MSP Lt. Paul Pummill. "Safe Center had let us know. So we tried to put together a last minute toy drive so they could have that."

The Safe Center will now distribute the toys collected today to local families in need.
