FLINT, Mich. (AP) -

A package of six grants totaling $600,000 is designed to help Flint-area residents facing hard times this winter.

The money from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is being announced Tuesday and is expected to help Genesee County residents.

Mott Foundation President Ridgway White says in a statement: "While this funding can't permanently solve such difficult problems, it can provide residents with some stability, security and peace of mind during the most challenging months."

The new grants are going to agencies that have received Mott support in the past.

The foundation says the Grant recipients include Carriage Town Ministries, Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, Old Newsboys of Flint, the Salvation Army of Genesee County and Shelter of Flint.
