KOCHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -

Saginaw Valley State University plans to spend up to $12 million to renovate the Zahnow Library.

School President Donald Bachand says in a statement that modern libraries "continue to be at the heart of teaching and learning for universities." He says students say they want more flexible study spaces and support services, so that's part of the planned changes.

The school's board voted last week to approve the spending.

Funding for the project includes a $1.5 million gift from the Harvey Randall Wickes Foundation in Saginaw.

The school expects additional private donations to support the renovation. The rest of the project is expected to be paid for through existing funds.
