Firefighter's Christmas gifts stolen, community steps up to help

CLIO, MI (WNEM) -

Nick Kreiner said every year in his house, Christmas is all about his three kids.

"Usually me and my wife don't get anything for each other we just get everything for the kids and that's basically what it's all about making the kids happy," Kreiner said.

But just days ago, the Clio volunteer firefighter and his wife were close to not having any gifts to put under the tree.

On Dec. 17, when the family was gone, thieves broke into their house.

They took guns, jewelry and most of the Christmas presents for the kids

"When we got home we realized that we had been robbed," Kreiner said.

Now, co-workers, friends and fire departments from all over the community are stepping up to help out the Kreiner family this Christmas.

"Clio Fire Department helped out, Mt. Morris, Forest Township, North Oakland County, Burton is helping out all the firefighters are pitching in," Kreiner said.

Kreiner said he can't believe the response.

He said thanks to the kindness of others his kids will have plenty of presents to unwrap.

And now his family has a whole new understanding of the spirit of Christmas.

“My family is really grateful, my kids are going to be happy on Christmas Day. It's really a great thing,” Kreiner said.
