A Mid-Michigan teacher has been recognized for her work with special education students.

Jessica Provoast teaches in a self-contained classroom for emotionally impaired students at Lindsay Elementary in Bay City.

The Bay City Public Schools teacher has been recognized as part of Michigan Lottery’s Excellence in Education award program.

Winners of the weekly award receive a plaque, a $500 cash prize and a $500 grant to their classroom, school or school district. One of the winners will be selected as the Educator of the Year and win a $10,000 cash prize.

“All of the little victories throughout the day keep me constantly motivated to keep pushing the kids to excel to the best of their ability,” Provoast said. “The little victories being anything that causes students to feel pride in themselves and anything that causes a student to smile.”

The nomination for Provoast said she was exceptional in all areas, especially in her work to bring mentors to her classroom and go on field trips with students.

Provoast earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and has worked for Bay City Schools for 16 years.
