Tuesday was the last night for a Mid-Michigan tradition this year.

The Santa House opened up in Bay City giving youngsters one more chance to let the big man in red know what they wanted for Christmas.

Mary Ida Doan and her late husband first opened up the Christmas house 25 years ago.

Since then, thousands have come to get a glimpse of Santa.

“We want to give back. I mean Bay City has been so good to us and we do not charge to get in,” Doan said. “We accept donations. But I think you have to have something so that everybody can come. If you charge, maybe there'd be children that couldn't see Santa. And we do not want that.”

The city officially declared Dec. 22 Santa House Day in honor of the Doan family's efforts.
