Mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain cause slick roads

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of accidents were reported just in Genesee County this morning after a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain pummeled Mid-Michigan.

“It was slippery on the roads I was on. I was just over in this neighborhood. I stay in this neighborhood right here and it’s not plowed. This street, I see, has been plowed. I don’t know about the highway,” said Darryl Cold, a driver TV5 caught up with near Pierson and Fleming Roads.

But people who left home after the main roads were plowed were able to avoid the worst of the slippery conditions.

“I guess because it has warmed up out here, the roads are pretty good. I haven’t had no problems,” said Homer Norris.

And while the mix of snow and sleet was hard enough to drive through, it’s just as hard to shovel.

“It’s heavy. If anybody got back trouble, I’ll tell them to either put a brace on or be real careful. Be real careful, because it’s really heavy,” said Calvin Leslie.

And with the threat of navigating icy roads, some people just want to stay inside.

“I’m going to get me some gas and go back home,” said Cold.
