Pavilion proposal could bring options to local downtown

BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

An idea for a new pavilion in Wenonah Park could give families more to do in downtown Bay City.

“I think this will fit into the fabric of downtown Bay City perfectly,” said Jenifer Acosta with the Neighborhood Development Co. The group, along with Michael Bacigalupo with the State Theatre, are working to make the pavilion happen. “It’ll bring a lot of people downtown to see and utilize it and we’ll have a lot of fun with it.”

The developers envision an open air pavilion that wouldn’t block the view of the water and would be available for several uses throughout the year.

“You can have picnics, parties, reunions, weddings whatever you want. And then in the winter time it would be an ice skating rink,” said Bacigalupo.

City Manager Rick Finn says the pavilion first has to be approved by the city.

“It gives the city more abilities to have different types of events that we don’t have right now. Right there, right along the water. If it is approved, I think it could be a really nice addition to the city, to Wenonah Park. However I know there’s other concern about covering the view of the water, so we have to go through the process and listen to all sides,” said Finn.
