TV5 appeals denial of school surveillance video

Posted: Updated:
SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

TV5 is appealing a decision by the Saginaw School District denying our freedom of information claim related to a recent incident.

On Dec. 7 we told the story of a Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy parent who claimed her son was beaten up, pulled into the bathroom, and punched in the stomach by a school security officer.

In our freedom of information letter we asked for a copy of surveillance video that the mother claims shows the incident.

In the denial we received today the district confirmed the existence of the video, and also reiterated there is an on-going investigation into the matter.

Here at TV5 we feel strongly about the media’s right to the surveillance video at this public school. We’ll keep you posted as our attorney moves forward with the appeal.
