Community rallies to help marry couple after three year wait

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WNEM) -

A Grand Rapids couple have finally said "I do" after waiting to get married for the last three years.

Jerold and Mani Clay are both homeless, but thanks to the generosity of some people around the city they were finally able to have a wedding.

They were married by Kenneth Kibby, an officiant who has married more than 100 couple to date.

“Everybody situation is different I have no idea what they're going to I have no idea what got them to where they are,” Kibby said.

And that's why he didn't charge them for their nuptials.

But he isn't the only one who stepped in and helped the couple – Mel Trotter Ministries helped the bride and groom look their best for the day.

“It was a blessing I didn’t expect this at all we just wanted to do it casual with a few friends and family and they came to me and made this happen the dress, makeup hair and everything and it meant a lot,” Mani Clay said.

The couple said they can't wait to start their new and improved lives together.
