ARLINGTON, TX (WNEM) -

Outside of AT&T Stadium, you've got your diehards itching for the game. But what happens when you're a diehard Wolverines fan and “guilty by association”?

"This is a true love story if I've ever heard one," said Michael Flashner. "My wife's a Wolverine, she and I met at a Michigan-Michigan State Hockey Game at Munn Arena. She came up with a friend of mine, had a great time, started dating a year later, and we've been together ever since."

Michael and Julie Flashner said their marriage has always had one compromise they've never been able to make.

"She had not worn a Michigan State shirt of any shirt of any sort since we had our son, who's now a sophomore in college," Michael Flashner said.

But that changed on Thursday, when she lifted her own ban on wearing green and white.

"Well, I will represent in honor of my husband and my son, as a part of a mixed marriage Wolverine-Spartan alliance that's gone on for a while," Julie Flashner said.

Michael Flashner said, "Today is a special day."

Julie Flashner promises this is not a new fad or trend she'll follow.

"Love kind of overcomes some of that, if this game was tomorrow, it might be a different story, but yeah, I'll represent the green and white today and then turn into my Maize and Blue tomorrow," Julie Flashner said.

A lot of fans said that is the best thing, being down here with family members and obviously friends, to watch the Spartans take on Alabama.

The Spartans lost to the Crimson Tide at the Cotton Bowl 0 to 38.
