Recent snowfall allows ski and snowboarding resort to open

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

For Mark Tibbitts white means green. Our recent snowfall, coupled with cold air for the manmade stuff, has allowed Mount Holly to open.

"Well, I'm going to tell you it's a huge relief. Huge relief," Tibbitts said.

Tibbitts is the general manager. He said he's glad to see the ski runs in use, but wishes they could've opened a week earlier.

"To lose the Christmas period generally accounts for anywhere from 15-20 percent of our annual income," Tibbitts said.

Of course Tibbitts is optimistic that lost revenue can be made up. Right now, five of the 19 trails are open. He said all of them should be in use by the end of next week as long as the weather cooperates.

"Have temperatures maybe in the mid-30s and dropping down into the 20s and the teens. But boy, I could certainly do without those single digits and below," Tibbitts said.

Tibbitts said the next two months are critical. He hopes old man winter, while late in arriving, will stay for a while and bring lots of skiers and business with him.

"We’re here and looks like we're here to stay," Tibbitts said.
