SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

It's a happy new year for a few families in Mid-Michigan, which now have some new bundles of joy to care for.

Claire Noel Gaffney is the first baby born in Saginaw this year.

She came in at 8 pounds, 3 ounces at covenant.

Her mother, Megan Gaffney said she went to the hospital at 1:30 a.m.

"They were going to send me home, but they decided to check me again and said I’d probably be having the first baby of the New Year, and she was born at 7:13 in the morning," Gaffney said.

She called her labor painful but quick.

And Bay City’s first baby of the year came in just a few hours ago.

Nevaeh Espinoza weighs 6 pounds, 11 ounces.

She's the daughter of Brian Prall and Vanessa Espinoza.
