FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

The cold temperatures this weekend came just in time to re-open a local skating rink.

After 25 years, the downtown Flint ice rink was reopened on Saturday, Jan 2.

Organizers say they wanted to bring some fun and life to the downtown area. The outdoor skating rink is seen as a great way to attract visitors who wouldn't normally come downtown.

Ice skaters tell TV 5 there are a few perks to skating in the cold.

"I like that they have all the seating out here. We get free hot chocolate which is super nice and a really good perk. So it's a lot of fun," one participant said.

The rink opens from 12 pm to 4 pm on the weekends. It's also open 6 pm to 9 pm on Wednesdays.
