Snow helping seasonal businesses after spring-like start

Tom Goodell runs ABO Tent Events. The summertime business offers plowing service for the winter. That came in handy for his clients.

So what is business like today?

"Good. A little unexpected," Goodell said.

A strong lake effect snow band sent flakes streaming into parts of Mid-Michigan. Goodell said the wintry outburst is good for his staff.

"It makes it so where I don't have to lay anybody off. I keep about four or five guys busy through the winter," Goodell said.

Not all had the luxury of a plow when it came to digging out.

"I'm shoveling snow for my daughter. She's in a wheelchair so she can't get out," said Helena Robinson. "So I’m her mom. I'm 63, so I'm out here helping her out."

Robinson is like a lot of people in the eastside of Saginaw, moving snow. She said she doesn't mind the work, as it gives her piece of mind when she thinks of her loved one's safety.

"In case something happens I want the ambulance or the police to be able to come in and help her. So it's for her," Robinson said.

Goodell said he'll be plowing lots well into the night, hoping for just enough snow for the rest of the season.

"I'd be happy with once a week. I mean I have enough seasonal business that's prepay whether we do the work or not that I can keep five or six people busy for the winter," Goodell said.
