Store earning reputation for being lucky for lottery players

Posted: Updated:

A Mid-Michigan gas station is attracting customers from near and far because of its winning record, including Dewie Fuqua from Clarkston.

“Lightning can hit twice in the same spot. So I’m hoping it’s going to be me.”

Fuqua is talking about the Odish Family Market and Sunoco station on North Main in Lapeer.

“I always make sure I come here because they did sell the winning ticket.”

And it’s not just one winning ticket. The station sold a $337 million Powerball ticket in August 2012. Then just last month a man purchased a Club Keno ticket with a prize of $200,000.

Store owner Peter Odish feels confident about selling yet another winning ticket.

“People think we’re lucky, we are. We just hit another big one, and hopefully we’re going to have another one.”

Customer Carl Delling wants to take home that money. But even with the store’s good fortune, he’s thinking about the odds.

“I guess my odds aren’t too good, but they are a lot worse if I don’t buy any at all.”

With Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing estimated at $145 million, and a Powerball drawing Wednesday worth $405 million, Delling says it’s worth a try.

“I just hope that streak will continue on and pour some my way.”
