Student creates 'Free Senior Picture Day' for those missing out on high school tradition

OWOSSO, MI (WNEM) -

One of the perks of being a senior in high school is choosing the picture that goes in your yearbook.

“Senior pictures, I believe, everyone deserves to have that lasting memory,” said Kaycee Ogle.

Ogle is on the yearbook staff at Owosso High School. She noticed a lot of seniors hadn't turned in a picture.

“Whether it has to do with the price of it or if they're just not available to get one,” Ogle said.

Then Ogle had an idea: She put her love for hair and makeup to good use by creating a Free Senior Pictures Day.

“Why don't we do something where the kids can do something where the kids aren't available to get one, and we can doll them up,” Ogle said. “Hair and makeup for girls, boys a barber comes in, cut, styled, gelled, whatever they want. Then get pictures done.”

Ogle enlisted the help of her makeup artist sister for her style team, and a photographer to donate time and pictures.

And no grey background with awkward smiles here. These photos will be professional and personal to each student.

Students are eager for the free pictures. Ogle said some even have their clothes already picked out for the day.

While it may seem like just a photo, Ogle also knows that it's the photo your classmates will see for years and years to come.

“I know I go through my parents yearbooks and I look at them, and their hairstyles back then and their memories,” Ogle said. “And I just think everyone deserves that opportunity to remember that and deserve to have a picture they love.”
