GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A former Genesee County resident has been extradited from Canada.

Jeries Qumsyeh, 62, is charged with the 1982 murder of his ex-wife, Salwa Isaac.

According to police reports, on Aug. 21, 1982, two women on horseback found the decomposed body of a woman on the northside of Ray Road in Mundy Township.

The woman’s cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot to her head.

On Aug. 22, 1982, Mundy Township police were contacted by a man who said the unidentified woman was his mother, Salwa Isaac.

Mundy Township Police’s investigation led them to Qumsyeh. After meeting with police, and giving them permission to search his vehicle, police discovered human blood and other evidence implicating Qumsyeh in Isaac’s murder.

Police scheduled a meeting on Aug. 26, 1989 with Qumsyeh. He never showed up.

Qumsyeh fled to Jordan. Efforts to extradite him were unsuccessful.

On Aug. 15, 2011, Qumsyeh was detained in Canada while trying to enter the country. Efforts began at that point to extradite him from Canada.

After a lengthy legal battle, Qumsyeh taken into custody by the FBI and local law enforcement.
