Community provides toys, donations to family after New Year's Day fire

Posted: Updated:
BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Ernie Galan III has wanted one thing for his family since they lost everything in a devastating fire in Bay County on New Year’s Day: "Back to normal, for me and my son."

And his wish has now been granted.

TV5 first brought you Galan’s story on Wednesday. His son, Ernie, has a rare genetic disorder and lost all his medical supplies too.

Since then, the community has filled his new home with everything they'll need and more.

"We've received everything from just food to paper products, replacement toys, toys for Ernie," Galan said.

Once of those people stepping up is Deanna Prieur. She's been around her community, collecting items for the Galan family.

"It's nice to see the community stepping up and helping the family," Prieur said.

Galan said the reaction he's received is more than he could have ever dreamed of. He said he wanted to thank everyone who has been instrumental in getting his family back on their feet.

"You guys, I want to thank TV5. You guys have been a big help, I initially didn’t want to do it, but I did, and I'm glad I did, everyone has been great," Galan said.

There is still a GoFundMe page set up for this family. It's raised more than $3000 so far.
