Product specialists a combination of beauty and brains

DETROIT (WNEM) -

The North American International Auto Show has the newest vehicles the country has to offer.

The show also features many women standing by the new rides. But for manufacturers, these women are much more than a pretty face.

Car companies will tell you this is one of the most important weeks of the year.

And they go to all lengths to try to get it right, including hiring women to stand by their cars.

But don't call them models.

"The Super Bowl of the auto show," said Heather Flora.

Flora’s title is a product specialist with Cadillac.

"These are the sweet rides aren't they?" Flora said. "This is the new CT6 and it will be out a little later this year."

She's worked this event for six years and knows more about the CT6 and the other Cadillacs than most.

"Lots of training goes into this. We come to Detroit a few times a year and we have a week-long extensive training," Flora said. "We learn all about the product, the brand, the history, the engine, the horsepower, the final drive ratio, the compression ratio, so all kinds of things like that. So we are more than just a pretty face."

And Cadillac’s product specialists are on par with what other car companies are doing.

"These women, yes, they're pretty and smiling and doing the old school thing, but they're also there to engage with the customer, and talk to them about the vehicle, and they know everything about it, so it's kind of a good mixture of both," said Lincoln representative, Chris Faville.

The knowledge and beauty is all for one sole purpose at this show.

"It's tremendously important, it's probably the most important week in all of the auto industry," Faville said.

Don't think the Flora and the other product specialists aren't aware of this.

"You have to be on your game, but it's a lot of fun," Flora said.
